History

The "Art of Flight" took two years to make with an estimated $2 million budget. Red Bull Media House, in association with Brian Farm Digital Cinema, were the producers behind the project with Curt Morgan directing the movie, also labeled as a documentary by some, with Travis Rice being the credited with the principle role. The movie also stars Jake Blauvelt, John Jackson and Jeremy Jones. This was the same team that had created "That’s it That’s all," another movie based on skateboarding and received well by the skateboard fans. The movie was released on 8 September 2011 in 42 cities across the United States and 20 countries worldwide, with over 85,000 iTunes download since its release.

Features

The "Art of Flight" takes its viewer around the globe to stunning places from Patagonia-Chile to Alaska-USA; one corner of the world to the other. The Art of Flight showcases some of the extremes of snowboarding as Travis and his company of professional snowboarders constantly aims to outdo each other and eventually themselves; performing new tricks and continuously pushing the boundaries of what is normally achievable. Dodging obstacles, avalanches, jumping from great heights and creating a whirl of snow around them while racing down some of the highest and longest slopes found anywhere, these snowboarders make the viewer sit and watch in a rush of excitement that’s hard to resist, especially if you’re a fan of snowboarding.

Tips and comments

The "Art of Flight" is probably the best snowboarding documentary, exciting and with great feats of athleticism. It does lack the structure of a proper movie though, something that you feel as you watch it, the lack of a plot line with some punch in it which leaves you slightly disappointed at the end. Some of the scenes could have been better directed and thought of; some even seem downright redundant in a movie that’s supposed to show you the best of snowboarding. The characters themselves suffer from a lack of depth in the plotline, hardly portrayed as individual you are left wondering who these people are. But it’s still a movie worth watching, more so if you’re a fan of the sport or enjoy watching extreme reality being showcased for you. Don’t miss it.
