If you don't want to find yourself paying late fees, you can check the balance of your credit card account online. Viewing the account online lets you check your due date and determine how much do you have to charge before you reach your limit. You can even view a transaction history to determine if all of the charges are truly yours. Considering the high rate of identity theft, checking your credit card account online periodically is a good idea. Any charges that you may have can be immediately reviewed without the need to wait on a credit card account statement.

Step 1

Open an Internet browser from your computer's desktop. You can use the browser of your choice. The browser will be used to navigate to your credit card account company's website. Popular Internet browsers include Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

Step 2

Enter the Web address of your credit card account company's website in the address bar and press “Enter.” The address can be found on the back of your credit card or on a bill you may have received. You can also try conducting an online search for the credit card company's website. If you are unable to located the website, call the customer service for your credit card company and request the Web address.

Step 3

Click “Register” under the option to enter your login information for your online credit card account. You will need to register for access to the website before you can view the balance of your credit card account. Completely fill out the registration form. You may be required to provide information such as Social Security number, credit card number and billing address to properly register to view your credit card account online. After you have entered the information, review it for accuracy. Correct any inaccurate information and click the “Submit” button.

Step 4

Sign into your new online credit card account. Use the user name and password that you selected during registration to access your credit card account. If you have forgotten your login information, click on the indicated link to retrieve your login information. You may have to contact the credit card company by phone to reset your online credit card account.

Step 5

Click “View Transaction History” or “View Balance” to check the balance of your credit card account. The balance of the credit card account will be displayed on the screen. You can opt to click on “Transaction History” to view all of your purchases using the credit card. If you cant to dispute a transaction, write down the identifying information for the transaction and contact your credit card company by phone.

Tips

Depending on your credit card company, you may be able to check the balance of your credit card account by phone. Check the back of your credit card for a toll-free number to call to get balance information. There may be a small fee associated with using customer service by phone to check the balance of your credit card account.
