When Was Digital Music Created?

Introduction

Not that long ago music was actually made in a form called analog. Over the years as technology gets better then things have to option but to be updated. Now there is digital music that actually started out on CD’s. As the demand for CD’s start to fade the portable devices are taking over where music can be downloaded and stored to them.

Artist’s Benefit

When the CD was a hot commodity you might think that an artist was getting rich quickly because of how many were sold. This was not the case at all. Every time a CD is sold the artist will only receive 16 percent of the total sale. Everything else is portioned out to the stores, record companies, etc.

That same artist can now offer digital music over the Internet for downloading to a number of various devices and this will cut just about everyone out. The artist can now offer a song for less money since they are making more profit and there is the option to sale millions in a blink of an eye. There is no more guessing how many CD’s to make in hopes they all get sold. If a consumer wants to purchase just one song at a time then there is now the option.

The drawback though with digital music over the Internet is many companies make copies and offer it free to the public.

Legal Campaigns

There is a huge war over digital music on the Internet. There is a group called Recording Industry Association of America that is cracking down on the distributers, downloader’s, and the companies that are manufacturing the different devices so the music can be downloaded and listened to. This means if you go to a website and download music for free without consist of the artist then there is a huge chance you will be in hot water and there could be charges filed.

Options

In order to keep everyone happy there should be some different options that everyone can choose from. If there are not any options to seize the war on digital music then the artist’s could decide it is just not worth their time to record anything new.

There are discussions about linking only two websites with music to any devices that tunes can be downloaded to. This would give the artist’s the opportunity of having more control over their music.

The digital music could even be encrypted so it will only play on the devices that are linked to a certain website. This once again gives the record companies and artists the advantage of controlling their music.

There has even been talk about making consumers pay for a subscription. This would not actually be for downloading music so it could be heard all the time. Instead if you wanted to hear your favorite tune then you would pay a fee each month and could hear it as often as you desired. Of course when you sign up for the services there will be private information about your self that you will have to part with.
