How I Turned My House Into a Home

A Home Is A Sanctuary

Every home has a story. Each homeowner has their own way to decorate a home. A home is a comfort zone where we go to rest after our busy lives. We decorate our home with our own style to make a statement as well. I decided I wanted to decorate my house to make it into a home and this is how I did it.

Decide A Theme

I thought about the way I wanted to decorate my house. I decided I wanted every room to have a different theme. I walked through my home going from one room to the next. As I stood in each room I thought about things. I thought about what I wanted each room to say something about what I like and enjoy.

My Ideas

In my house I chose a country, hunting, camouflage look for our large family room. I painted my walls a light olive green almost greenish tan color. I hung on the walls a log cabin style country clock. My partner has shot deer and a bear he has gotten while hunting. I hung them up also. I hung up wood shelves on the walls and put up pictures of log cabins, hunting dogs, deer and other great country looks. We found some great coffee tables and end tables with a country log cabin older wood looking style to them. The furniture was a very plump, comfy brown color and style. I put down an amazing, huge throw rug in the middle of the room For our smaller living-room I chose a more basic, darker, cozy style. I chose to paint the room in a darker maroon color. I put down a huge throw rug with a color block square pattern. The rug brightens up the room a little since the walls are dark. Then put in dark green furniture and coffee and end tables with very dark wood. I set up a corner shelf and put little decorations on the shelf such as angels, crosses and other basic items. On the largest wall is a large picture of my partner and I. Our kitchen is basic. I chose all black appliances and offset the black with the color red. I put red canisters on the counter and a red candle set on the island. The throw rugs in front of the sink and refrigerator are also red. Our bedroom is done in hunters camouflage as is our master suite bathroom. The bedroom furniture is old fashioned log cabin wood themed. It looks so fantastic. I love to retire to my bedroom at night. The other bathroom in my house is decorated in brown. However, during the holiday seasons it may be decorated with a Santa or snowman theme. I have Easter and Valentines day themed bathroom decorations as well.

Our Basement

We also have a full basement in my house. The basement has an extra bedroom which I decorated in pink. The rest of the basement is decorated in two themes. I used poker playing and firefighter decorations. We have a bar. The bar stools with cushions done in red and black. I have put up two clocks. One with a poker playing table on it and the other with a fireman and his dalmatian dog.
