Netbooks are portable and modern devices. When considering buying a netbook, especially when you are a writer, a basic processor with any operating system will not suffice. The gadget should be able to provide all the writing tools, editing tools and a faster operating system. The four major factors to consider are:
Screen: The screen or the display should be not very small as this will pose a problem while reading and editing. The document displayed will appear very small and cramped. A minimum of 10.1 inch display with 1024 x 600 is preferable. This will help wider document with more words to fit on the screen. A higher resolution of 1366 x 768 will certainly be of more help. This resolution will help to write and read anywhere without difficulty in such netbooks.
Keyboard: Small netbooks will provide smaller keyboards wherein typing becomes very difficult. To have enough space and a wider keyboard is a basic requirement for any writer. This will not cramp the hand and is comfortable while typing. A full size keyboard is a must for any writer.
Weight: It is advisable to have a low to medium weight netbook as a writer has to carry it for longer hours and anywhere he or she goes. An ideal weight would a 2lb. netbook.Battery: As a writer, one will need to carry the netbook along, inside or outside the home or work place. So the laptop will not ensure power connectivity all the time. Hence a netbook with a longer battery life is advisable to ensure continuous work. It is best to get a netbook with a battery backup of about seven hours.
Performance: It is better to possess a dual core system netbook as the performance is very good. Having a single core processor doesn’t allow one to use too many programs at a time. As a writer, one will need to research, edit, modify and rewrite which will need more than one program to run on the system. But a single core processor with good performance will also suffice.
Netbooks that satisfy all the above requirements would be an ideal netbook for writers. The three best Netbooks that are recommended for writers are Lenovo Idea pad, Samsung NF310 and HP mini 1103.
Lenovo Idea Pad: There are two versions, regular and tablet netbooks, which are best for writers. The display is glossy and 1024 x 600 and the keyboard is about the best size and the processor is single core but performance is very good. The battery life is up to seven hours.HP Mini 1103: These netbooks have an antiglare display and are equipped with a 1024 x 600 display. The processor is single core but with good performance and the keyboard is of high end. The battery life is about 8 hours. Samsung NF310: The display is of 1366 x 768 pixel resolution and the keyboard is comfortable for these netbooks. The battery life is about 6 and half hours.
