It is no surprise that the most common cancer in women is breast cancer. The biggest reason why women get breast cancer more often is because of their genetic make-up. Of course this is not the only reason why women get more breast cancer; there are other risk factors that are involved. Having a family history of breast cancer is one reason why it can be more common. If any female in your family has had breast cancer than it ups your chances of getting cancer. Another risk factor to getting women cancer of the breast has to do with how young you were when you got your first menstrual cycle.


Some of the other reasons why you might get women cancer of the breast are not having a baby until after the age of 30. This does not mean that you will definitely end up with breast cancer; it just means that you could and has been shown to happen to women. Other risk factors include drinking and smoking. Doing either one of these in excess can also lead to women cancer of the breast. Having the occasional drink will not cause you to get breast cancer, but if you drink heavily on a daily basis this can be a contributing factor for breast cancer. Breast cancer is the number one killer among women and can be hard to detect at first. This is why a yearly exam is so important and a monthly self examination is important for you to do. If you do not know how to do the monthly exam, your doctor’s office should have a pamphlet on how to do one.


Of course, breast cancer is not the only women cancer that is common. Women also end up with lung cancer and this is the second most common cancer among women. Most people tend to think that it is cervical cancer or uterine cancer, but this is not the case. Lung cancer is one of the easiest cancers to avoid, yet among cancers it is the leader of cancer deaths. Some other causes besides smoking are radon exposure, arsenic, tar and soot. The third leading cause women cancer is colon and rectum cancer. Some of the contributing factors for these include heavy drinking, smoking, inactivity and a low-fat, high- fiber diet.

It is very important to go to the doctor and make sure that you get a yearly check-up. It is also beneficial to you to not ignore any warning signals that your body may be sending you. You know your body better than anyone else and know when something is not right. Trying to eat healthy and getting exercise every day can help you stay in the top shape and avoid women cancer that can strike you. Some factors can not be avoided and those include a family history and if your female relatives had cancer. If they did you are more likely to also get cancer. Catching any cancer in the early stages can mean the difference between life and death in most cases.
