Vitamin C is good in treating glaucoma and maintaining the collagen tissue of the eyes.

Lutein works to aid in preventing cataracts along with macular degeneration in the eyes by forming a safeguard for the eyes. You can find lutein in tomatoes, spinach, squash and carrots.

Selenium is a natural source of antioxidants and is good for the eyes. This can be found in Brazil nuts.

Zinc found in the retina, helps to keep the eyes functioning correctly and is a wonderful antioxidant.

Copper works to help the antioxidant enzymes in the eyes function. You should aim to take at a minimum 2 mg of copper either naturally or in a supplement form. Foods that you can find copper are legumes, whole grain cereals and oysters as well.

Manganese helps the ocular function of the eye. This vitamin can be found in nuts, seeds and wheat germ.

Flaxseed oil is something else you can take. Flaxseed oil supplements are good to control dryness of the eyes. There is some research that indicates taking these supplements can reduce the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration.

Be warned that when taking eye supplements to be aware of any possible side effects that can incur. You should consult your doctor before any type of regimen and report any side effects. Some side effects you may experience are nausea and having upset stomach. You may experience Vitamin A toxicity if the supplement you are taking is Vitamin A or has Vitamin A in it. Since vitamin A is fat soluble it can not be discharge out of your body instead it is stored within your body. Too much Vitamin A can lead to medical problems such as dry and itchy skin, fatigue, nausea and more serious complications could arise like liver damage and possibly coma.
