Qualifications required

In order to get finance jobs you are required to have a qualification in finance, it could be a bachelor degree or a diploma. Some people even have PHDs and Masters Qualifications in finance and they are successful. For you to get a job as an Investment Advisor or Investment Broker you will need to have studied a finance course like a Bachelor of Commerce in Banking and Finance or in some cases you are required to be a Chartered Financial Analyst. You can also specialise in Insurance and Risk management courses if you want to work in the insurance industry. Actuaries for example have studied actuarial sciences at university and this course is also known to be one of the most challenging courses in the financial sector.

Finance careers in banking

If you want to work in a bank, you must have a banking or finance related qualification. Bank tellers and bankers working in the treasury department also need to have finance courses. This is however different for people working in customer services and in the administration department. Admin staff needs to have administration courses and those in the call centre and customer services need to have marketing courses, which again is a finance course.

In order to get well paying finance jobs you need to pass subjects like Maths, Accounting and Finance courses. There are plenty of finance courses that one can do but it all depends with the specific course you are doing. It is advisable to have some interest when you are still at high school because most colleges and universities require you to have some background in Accounting for example before you can study an Accounting course.

Applying for a finance job

The first step before you start applying for finance jobs is to hold a specific qualification like Actuarial Sciences or Accounting. Normally you will not have problems if it’s an entry job. Some senior positions may require you to have certain experience; usually they will state it on the job description. Remember there is stiff competition out there so you will need to stand out from the rest.


If you think you can not do an impressive CV, get a professional to do it for you. When you attend interviews make sure you also impress. Once you are in the industry, it is easy to change jobs and you can even ask for more in terms of salary because you will have the confidence of handling any job in your specific category.
