Introduction

A surround home theater is a set up where you have a good television set and video components and an external sound system. If you hook up your old stereo to your TV, it is far from top of the range surround sound system. Here is you can buy and set up your surround home theater system.

The surround home theatre

The first step is to set aside some space in your living room where your surround home theater will be set up. There should be enough space to put a large televisions set, usually 27 inches and above. There should also be room to put several speakers and they include 2 large stand-up surround speakers, two smaller speakers and other components that you wish to include.

The second step is to decide on the video components that you want to include in your surround home theater. For basic TV viewing, you need a roof aerial or cable. For viewing lots of videos you will need to include a VCR. If you would like to have high sound and picture quality you will need a DVD player or a laserdisc.

The third step when you want to buy and set up your surround home theater system is to select a receiver for the surround sound. If you want a basic surround sound, the receiver has to be equipped with a Dolby Digital decoder that has four channels. For a more advanced surround sound with effects, you need to buy a receiver that is equipped with a Dolby Digital decoder with five channels.

Also

The fourth step is to install your surround home theater speakers. At least five speakers are required to complete your set up, and you will be able to experience surround sound in your living room. Two large speakers will be placed at the front near the TV, a smaller channel speaker in a central position and tow small speakers that are placed behind you or at the side. To set up your speakers, you can place the right and the left speakers in a triangle with your viewing seat. If you do not have a central speaker, you can place your front speakers next to your television set. The subwoofer can be placed anywhere that you have space. If you want to have the best sound quality, the central speaker should be placed at the same height as your tweeters just in front of your TV.

Finally

The fifth step in buying and installing your surround home theater system is to position your TV where is can easily be viewed. You should carefully consider where you are going to place the TV since it will determine where the other components are placed. Once you have set up the televisions set, it is now time to connect the video peripherals. These include the VCR or DVD player of the laserdisc player. Once you have connected your video peripherals, you should connect the surround receiver near your television set to enable you to adjust the audio quality.
