Introduction

Bus travel is quite popular for those who take vacations. It is thought that more seniors prefer vacation travel by bus due to the convenience. Greyhound Bus Lines offers travel all over most of the United States and Canada. They have more choices of destinations and departure stations. Here are some basic tips to keep in mind when you choose Greyhound Bus Lines for your vacation travel.

Step 1

There are many advantages to using Greyhound Bus Lines for traveling from your departure city to your destination point. When you use this method of travel you don’t have to worry about dealing with traffic hassles or possibly getting lost in a rush of traffic flow going to and from the places you will travel through.

Before taking off on your Greyhound Bus Lines vacation, you need to make sure you know how many stops will be made in between your departure and destination cities. Some of the buses stop more often than others. It all depends on the routes they take.

Step 2

Most of the buses in the Greyhound Bus Lines have a restroom on board. Although it’s available, they generally prefer it’s used only in emergency situations. This could potentially be an uncomfortable situation for those that may have to use the restroom more frequently than stops are offered.

Chances of you being the only passenger on a Greyhound bus are slim to none. You will be traveling with all types of people. There could be teenagers, individuals, entire families and it’s even possible there could ill passengers.

Step 3

When traveling by bus, it’s possible you can have one or more layovers. Layovers are known to last anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Be prepared just in case you may encounter a lengthy layover.

You may not know it, but Greyhound Bus Lines and some other bus companies are in the business together. This means that you can purchase your ticket through Greyhound Bus Lines but you may end up traveling on a bus owned by a different company. This would be because that particular bus shares the same route that Greyhound Bus Lines would travel on. It won’t affect your price and you can see which bus lines will be operating on a certain route by checking directly with Greyhound Bus Lines.

Step 4

Seniors are most often eligible for a 5% discount off the regular fare price. This is something that qualifying seniors will need to mention when tickets are purchase. Bus tickets can be purchased in advance or up to one hour before scheduled departure time. If disabled passengers will be boarding, you would need to give Greyhound Bus Lines advance notice by letting them know at least 48 hours in advance. This will allow the bus lines to make plans to provide assistance for anyone with a disability.

Step 5

When you purchase a bus ticket, even with advance planning, you are not guaranteed a seat. Greyhound Bus Lines uses their operation standards of first-come, first-served so you need to make sure you arrive early.

If for some reason or another your bus runs late, you will not be entitled to a refund. This isn’t always an issue but you must remember if you are traveling during holidays, you can expect more passengers and more delays. Holidays are the busiest time of the year for bus travel.
