Introduction

Hearing and seeing are 2 different things when it comes to determining the good, bad, and ugly features of hotels. While you see a great deal of information about good and bad hotels, it seems that some hotels have been featured as being among the top 10 worst hotels in America. What are the hotels that have been listed as being in the top 10 and why?

Step 1

Much media coverage was given to the top 10 worst or dirtiest hotels in America. It was seen on several news media websites and on national television. The information given was obtained from Trip Advisor who offered the information to the public based on ratings and reviews received on their travel website.

Step 2

The first hotel on Trip Advisors bad hotels list is:

Grand Resort Hotel & Convention Center - Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

Reviews for this hotel included complaints such as dirty carpet, bed bugs, rude staff, parking issues and more. Although their daily rate is actually fair and it is located in a tourist town, the reviews on Trip Advisor led this hotel to its negative media exposure. It is noted that this hotel is under new management and is undergoing improvements.

Step 3

The second hotel on Trip Advisors bad hotels list is:

Jack London Inn - Oakland, California

Reviews of this hotel indicated that the hotel was uncomfortable and filthy. It was also noted that this hotel’s surroundings were junked up really bad. Their daily rates are fair within the lodging market and media exposure certainly did its number on this hotel. Management indicated that the reviews were exaggerated and the hotel is undergoing renovations.

Step 4

The third hotel on Trip Advisors bad hotels list is:

Desert Inn Resort - Daytona Beach, Florida

Reviews of this hotel include things such as peeling ceilings, cracked walls and other cosmetic defects. There were also complaints about cigarette burns and unpleasant smells throughout the hotel. Management has indicated that they feel the rating is not fair and they have many repeat guests.

The tenth hotel on Trip Advisors bad hotels list is:

Econo Lodge Newark International Airport - Elizabeth, New Jersey

Guest complaints include things such as the carpet having mold and stained areas, unclean linens and they say that they received bug bites during their stay. No management comments were noted to have been made.

Step 12

While such reviews are made available for the public to review on Trip Advisor, it is not necessarily true that every complaint made is legitimate. Although these properties received some bad reviews, it is important to realize there are many guests that had positive experiences during their stay. Any hotel can be considered top amongst bad hotels if you have a few guests' that may have had a negative experience.

A bad hotel is actually a matter of guest opinion. While one guest may have had some negative issues, there are many others that have had positive experiences. With differing opinions and experiences on a large-scale basis, it is impossible to determine that those hotels actually deserve the media coverage they received, however, it never hurts to check reviews before staying in any hotel.

Tips

Always check reviews on Trip Advisor.
