Introduction

Having a Sony car CD player installed can be quite expensive. Many people can't afford to buy the CD player and then turn around and have someone install it for them. You can save quite a bit of money by installing the Sony car CD player yourself. It is not that difficult a job and is often worth it to most people. There are several steps that you will need to follow to allow for a safe installation with no damage to your vehicle or the CD player itself. Taking your time through the installation is the most important part of installing a Sony car CD player.

Step 1

The first step to installing a Sony car CD player is to make sure that you choose a compatible player for your radio console opening. If the player does not fit, you will run into a more expensive install because you will most likely need a professional to finish the job. If you choose the correct size, the installation of the Sony car CD player will pretty much be a breeze. It helps if you can measure the previous CD player, or better yet, take it with you when you purchase your new player. This can save you a lot of aggravation.

Step 2

One of the most important steps that people leave out in the installation process is taking time to read over the instructions and the owners manual. They figure the job is easy and they don't need to read the instructions. These same people end up messing up their wiring and ruining their Sony car CD player just because they were too lazy to read the instructions. The instructions will prepare you for the tools that you need and what will happen through the install process. Getting your tools and other items together before you begin the install can greatly help you through the process and save you time.

Step 3

The absolute most important part of this whole process is to unhook your battery before you begin anything! You will risk getting severely shocked and this can result in death. Take this warning seriously and make sure that before you begin working with any wiring that you unhook those cables. It only takes a minute or two, and it can save your life!  Don't run the risk of electrical shock just because you don't want to unhook your battery. This is just needless carelessness that you can truly avoid.

Step 4

After you have removed the dash covering and your old CD player, you are ready to install your new Sony car CD player. You will need to make sure that you wire it correctly. Your instruction manual will come with a wiring diagram. This is so important to follow, because if you don't, your Sony car CD player won't just not work, you could fry it! It is important to connect each of the speaker wires with the ground and then connect the power supply wire. This is the most important part of the installation process and the most difficult. It should not be hard if you follow the directions.

Step 5

Once you have all of the Sony car CD player wires connected, it is time to test to see if it works. You will need to hook your battery up again and turn your key in the ignition. If all of the CD player's functions work, then you are good to go! Check for any wire sparks before you place the CD player into the opening. It will then screw in with a couple of screws. Once you have it securely fastened in, you will just need to replace the dash cover. It's as simple as that!
