How To Install Security Car Alarms

Regardless as to whether you live in a high crime area or simply would like to be able to get a break on your car insurance premiums, you may be thinking about installing an alarm on your vehicle. However, you should know that there are a lot of different types of car security alarms and vehicles available on the market today. Installing them can be somewhat challenging. However, there is a certain process that you should undertake in order to make things a bit easier upon yourself.

Step 1

Read through the entire manual that comes with the car security alarm that you have purchased. This will give you a lot of information about the project that you are about to undertake. It is also a good idea to prepare your car and the car security alarm unit itself. Make sure that you have diagrams of your vehicle’s wiring and layout, as well as any screws, screwdrivers and wire cutters that you may need (never use your hands to do a job that requires tools or you may injure yourself). Armed with these items you can start by taking off any of the car’s panels or covers that the manual indicates should be removed.

Step 2

Mount the car security module somewhere out of site on your vehicle. The manual will then tell you how to run the valet switch (call the company’s tech support representative with any questions that you may have while installing your car security alarm). Now wire the external antenna and make sure that anything that needs to be attached or plugged into the alarm unit is. Make sure that none of the uncovered wires are left touching one another unless the manual tells you to do so.

Step 3

Run the LED light before connecting the car security alarm’s power wire to your vehicle’s battery. There’s a fuse that will need to be attached to the power wire. The manual should indicate exactly how this is to be attached. Now mount the shock detector. Make sure to carefully consult your manual before doing this since it will vary depending upon what type of vehicle you have and which car security alarm you purchased.

Step 4

Wire the door lock according to the manual’s instructions. If there’s current sensing in your car security alarm, you’ll want to wire this now too.

Step 5

Find your vehicle’s starter wire. Follow the instructions to install any starter wire disabling components. Afterwards you’re also going to want to finish any of the miscellaneous wiring that the manual tells you needs to be completed. Make sure that you go over all of your work and make sure that all of the wires are safely covered. If there are still any components that need to be attached to the car security alarm module, you’ll want to do this now. Once you have done these things you should be done with the installation.

Tips

Make sure that you always group wires that go to the same location together with a piece of electrical tape in order to minimize wire clutter.
