Introduction

If you work for a TV network, or if you’re a segment producer, here are some steps that you could follow to make better TV network coverage and boost up that TV rating.

Step 1

Step 1. Make sure to get a very good story to cover

Segment producers should be able to research on a very good story to cover. It should be something that most people would find very interesting, something that would make them see and realize that the TV network that they tuned into have very interesting story coverage. People usually want something controversial or is currently being talked about, something real, something that they don’t know yet, or something very informative.

Step 2

Step 2. Make sure you have access to the story

It would be very useless to cover a story if you have no access to it or you have no permission to cover it. Whether it is a live or taped coverage, segment producers from the TV network should be able to ask permission from any official or anyone that is involved. There are some stories however that would no longer need any permission for to cover the story especially if you’re covering for live events. However, of course, you would need to have access on how to reach the destination or how to get in to that story.

Step 3

Step 3. Prepare all the equipment needed for TV network coverage

Regardless if you’re going to have a live or taped TV network coverage, you should always make sure that everything is prepared before making the coverage. Make sure you have your script ready, make sure that your reporter, camera man, and technical staff are ready. You also have to make sure that you have all the materials and equipment prepared. Back-up equipment should also always be carried around just to make sure in case technical problems are encountered. A good TV network coverage should be taped with complete equipment for taping to get clearer coverage.

Step 4

Step 4. Make sure to arrive early on the site of coverage

It is important to be early on the site of the coverage because you would have to set-up the equipment and materials first. It would also be the time to check if the pieces of equipment are working properly, making troubleshooting to be done ahead of time for a smooth flow of the TV network coverage. For taped coverage, arriving early on the site would be necessary because you will be instructed where to set-up your equipment. It is also important if you’re doing a live coverage because there might be some sudden event that would occur in the site.

Step 5

Step 5. Make sure to get the best angles

In taping the story, whether it is live or not, a good TV network coverage would also depend on the best angles that would involve the relevance of the story or report. It should not always focus on the reporter but to the environment as well. This is very important especially in having a live coverage because you would want to get all the action that no other network would dare to do. This is why camera men and reporters would go through lengths just to get a very good coverage.

Conclusion

There are a lot of TV networks nowadays but not all of them have really good ratings. The content of TV network coverage would always be relevant to have good ratings.
