Introduction

There has been a lot of changes in the food industry. Before the turn of the century, jobs cooks were looked down upon but today, this is no longer the case and chefs are among the world’s top earners. It is not unusual to find graduate cooks who are articulate, smart and good at what they do. There are different categories of cook jobs. When you are hired as a cook, it helps to have knowledge of the different kitchen specialities. It gives you an edge. This is particularly applicable when you are learning on the job. You can ask to work on a rotational basis in the different kitchen sections. This is a good way to make yourself more marketable as you will have more jobs cooks open to you in future.

In some jobs cooks interviews, you may be required to show your skills practically. Make sure you have adequate practice sessions to increase your confidence so you don’t panic and mess up. Your resume should be presentable and up to date. Remember to carry your own set of chef tools on the day of the interview. This shows your professionalism and you will be able to handle any unforeseen eventuality.
