Introduction

Courthouses and the proceedings inside are compiled of many people that make these proceedings happen. Besides the obvious ones we expect to see in courthouses, there are many job titles behind the scenes as well. 

History

If you have ever been to court, you know there are several people in the court room during proceedings as well as multiple people in each department throughout the court house. Many court jobs consist of performing job related tasks outside the court room, but there are also some jobs that will be performed during court proceedings.

Besides the obvious attorneys that are generally employed by a law firm or own their own firm, and judge always seen on the bench, there are many other court jobs held by people who make all the court proceedings possible, keep records, transcribe files and collect payments.

As if that isn't enough to keep a courthouse going, there are people who work day and night to assure a courthouse and its offices, court rooms and other areas are kept clean and in good order. Those are just some examples of the court jobs you may find in different locations. For court jobs and titles, there will be different qualifications and requirements. These elections are usually held at a local level.

Some of the higher courts such as federal courts may have additional court jobs related to the different departments within the federal court. These court jobs generally have a much stiffer training and educational requirements than courts at the local or state levels.
