Networking Jobs and Duties

A Network Information Systems Manager will be the person in charge of technicians, programmers, engineers or possibly even the administrators. Most often they will be responsible for the planning and implementation of long range strategies and network related upgrades. Salary levels can vary depending in many factors.

A Network Programmer is pretty close to the same as a Network Analyst. These are the networking jobs that will require a candidate have the ability to actually write a software program and scripting. They are also responsible for developing programs that can be used for network diagnostics and monitoring. They must be able to evaluate software developed by other companies and figure out how to combine new software technology in a network environment that is already in existence.

Network Technicians are more involved in the initial setup of networks. They should also be able to troubleshoot the network system and make necessary repairs. It will also be expected that they have the ability to perform necessary upgrades and offer support to users. The Network Technicians are often referred to as “tech support.” These individuals will be the contact person for those users who may have issues while using a network within a company or business setting.

While a Network Technician has their responsibilities their job title can often be confused with that of the Network Administrator. A Network Administrator is actually the person who does network configurations and management of LAN’s and WAN’s. They may also be responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining the security of the network. While those are some of the daily job related tasks required, it’s not uncommon to have a Network Administrator who will also offer assistance to customers who use certain products or services related to the network in which they support.

Sometimes it is found that a Network Engineer and Network Administrator are basically the same position. These titles are sometimes used all-inclusively but its thought that the Network Administrators focus more on routine management of the networks but the Network Engineers would be performing more of the upgrades and vendor evaluations.

While the salary and job related duties may vary from company to company, the final conclusion for one that wishes to qualify for networking jobs must get the proper formal education. Some networking jobs aren’t available for entry-level individuals so it’s always best to start somewhere that will allow you to get some experience and move forward from there.
