How to find jobs with health benefits

Introduction

Employer-based health insurance is one of the most popular methods for accessing medical care for the labor force. Other options might include government and public funded health insurance plans, or individual plans. However, for many people, having a jobs with benefits is just as important as the actual wages.

For example, parents, with both small and large families, rely on health insurance to offset the high costs of medical care and treatment. For many, the fact that an employer pays a portion of the premiums set forth by the health insurance companies is an added benefits

Unfortunately, in modern times, jobs with health benefits are becoming a thing of the past. Companies face economic headwinds just like the average household, and need to cut expenses where possible. For many businesses, the cutbacks occur for the health benefits afforded to existing employees. For job seekers and new hires, they are finding that it is increasingly difficult to jobs with benefits at all. 

The jobs with are opening all the time, but people may have to work a little harder to find them.

Step 1

Use online job search engines to browse for jobs with health benefits. Popular job aggregators include CareerBuilder.com and Monster.com. When you search for a job by title, include the keyword benefits or health benefits in the text box. For example, if you are looking for a job in construction, type your query in the following format: "construction health benefits." Many hiring employers will include these keywords in the parentheses next to the title of the job. Also, the keyword search tools on many websites is able to look deep down into the longer text of the job description, almost prefetching the listings that contain terms like benefits. 

Step 2

Ask people in your personal life if they are familiar with companies that offer jobs with benefits. Health insurance is becoming a hot commodity. Sometimes people know by word of mouth, which companies offer these benefits. Also, if you are on social networking sites, such as Facebook or Twitter, toss the question out to your connections: "Who is hiring and offers health benefits."

Step 3

Leverage the benefits of being a part of a professional association to find jobs with benefits. For example, if you are a certified public accountant, you can ask your city's or state's association for job listings that offer benefits.

Step 4

Reverse search health insurance companies that offer coverage for employers. Many insurance companies will write press releases or even advertise online which employers use their plans to cover employees. Sometimes these are called "Featured Companies" or "Featured Employers."

Step 5

Cold call or email an employer that you want to work for, asking about jobs with benefits. Many times a human resources professional will respond.
