How To Look For a Job With Benefits

Published at 02/15/2012 05:27:17

Introduction

A job with benefits is becoming increasingly harder to find in the labor market. At one point in our country's history, people could find basic employment benefits, such as healthcare and dental by working for just about any company. However, today, those same company's are struggling to include benefits in employee compensation packages.

Much of the problem centers around the cost that the companies incur for offering benefits across a pool of employees. A lot of the population is generally unhealthy, and so that translates to higher costs for seeing doctors, running tests and prescribing medicines to treat various ailments.

Other benefits, such as dental, life insurance and disability benefits are becoming less of a necessity even though many workers have become accustomed to having free or low-cost access to these services through their employer. But even these benefits are being phased out, along with retirement and pension benefits. It is still possible to find a job with benefits, if you focus your job search to deal with the modern labor market.

Step 1

Seek out those companies that have a high demand for workers to find a job with benefits. In many cases, these jobs are referred to as highly-skilled professions, such as someone who is considered good with his or her hands and very smart. For example, someone who can repair the engine on expensive industrial equipment, such as a construction tractor, is in demand as much of the general public may lack both the education and experience to deal with such equipment. Employers offer generous compensation packages to attract these highly skilled workers.

Step 2

Find employment in other industries, to find a job with benefits. For example, the role of customer service agent is similar across industries, but the compensation varies significantly. A person who performs customer service for cell phone providers may or may not have benefits from their employer. However, a customer service agent who works for a major health insurance carrier company, the the benefits administrators for other companies, will definitely have benefits.

Step 3

Include the term "benefits" when you do a job search online.

Step 4

Ask family and friends if they know of company's that have openings for a job with benefits.

Step 5

Contact a company that you come across in your local area or on the Internet and ask if they are hiring for a job with benefits.
