How To Find a Home Floor Plan Online

Introduction

When planning to build a new home, one of the first things that you will want to do is pick off a floor plan that is right for you. A floor plan is how the home floor and walls of the home are laid out. For example, some people may enjoy a big open plan where all rooms join one another and you can see from one room to another. Some people prefer a more closed floor plan, where there are walls separating the rooms for a more private feel to them. Looking for a home floor plan online doesn't have to be such a daunting task.

Step 1

There are many places you can go to look online to find a floor plan. One of the first is to go direct to the website of the builder who will be building your new home. Typically, they will list the most popular floor plans these are the plans that the builder typically builds the most. If you are unable to find a floor plan that you are interested in, you may be able to call the builder to see if they have more available in their office for you to look at. Some builders even have a "model home", which is a home floor plan that is set up for people to look at and choose which features that they may want inside their home.

Step 2

Google for the blueprints of your dreams. If you google free home blueprints you may be able to find just what you are looking for and for free. These blue prints are typically a small lay out and will be something you will have to print off and take to your contractor to look at.

Step 3

Look up different contractor companies online, and see if they have blue prints available. If so, these may be something you can print off or possibly even get a copy of to take direct to your builder to look at. By doing this you are assuring you are getting the exact layout that you are looking for in your new home.

Step 4

Go "model home" shopping. Look in local newspapers and online to see if you see any model homes that are open to the public for viewing purposes. If you find a model home and get there, typically they will have a blue print laid in the home somewhere. Normally this is laying on the kitchen counter top, as this is a standard place to put them at. Once you have toured the home and saw your pros and cons you can change it on the blue print paper work. For example say the bathroom has a oval tub, but you prefer a corner tub be sure to note that on the paper and draw it onto the bathroom you are wanting changed. By doing this you are assuring that you are getting the design that you are looking for in the home.

Step 5

Order a copy of the blue prints online. The only downfall to doing this is there is usually a hefty price involved in ordering these and can range anywhere from $1,000 and up for a standard blueprint. The good part about these blue prints is they are typically drawn by a home designer who is just looking to sell his idea to others who are interested in having a home built.

Tips

Remember, if you see something you do not like always ask for it to be changed. It is your home, and you are spending a lot of money for it not be up to your specifications.
