Introduction

Shopping for a home is an exciting adventure. Often if you are lucky, you will find one that has several of the items on your wish list. Occasionally a potential buyer will find two homes that have a lot of the amenities on their wish list. They then must decide between home A and home B. This can be difficult, as home A will have certain items and home B will have other items. While it is important to take some time in deciding between home A and home B, it is also important not to take too much time. You will want to make an offer before another potential buyer does.

Step 1

  • Make a list of all the pros for house A and house B. List everything that you like about each house. This could be size, fireplace, large closets a large yard, newer windows, anything at all that you like about each house. Take two sheets of paper and write house A on one and house B on the other and get to work writing. Even seemingly small things should  make it on to the list.

Step 2

  • On the same sheets of paper that you listed all of the good things about home A and home B, you can now make a list of the cons. Anything that you do not like about the homes should go here. This can be due to items that must be updated or replaced, things that you wish the home had that it doesn't, anything at all that gives you reason to pause when considering the house.

Step 3

  • Take a drive down the street where house A is located and down the street where house B is located. Drive around the neighborhood to get an idea of how busy the street is, if there are kids out playing in the area, and if it is quiet at night. This is important information to have about a new home. If you are going to be living in an area that is a bit  noisy at night, and you are one who needs total quiet to sleep, it could be an issue.

Step 4

  • If you have children gather information on the schools near house A and house B. Also determine which area has more of the amenities that you and your family enjoy, such as dining, parks and recreation, theaters, sporting events. Anything that you and your family enjoy.

Step 5

  • Look over all of the information that you now have about house A and house B. Use this information to determine which home has more of the features that you want and less of the ones that you do not enjoy. Having gathered so much information should help you to come to a decision on which house, house A or house B would be the best option for you and your family.

Tips

When making your pros and cons list, go quickly writing down everything that pops into your head on the list. Working fast and not over-thinking could help you come up with a better list.
