Spanish football, one of the most famous games in the whole of Spain has taken the hearts of many people. Spanish football is more of a religion for the inhabitants of Spain. In every nook and corner of the country you can see at least one person with a football in his hand. The people of Spain, eat, drink and breathe football. Whenever, their league matches are going on you can see the whole country getting into the spirit of the game. With everyone wearing their favorite team’s shirts, carrying their flags and even painting them on their faces, the atmosphere is just euphoric. You just cannot help falling in love with it yourself even if you are not much of a football fan.

History

The main governing body of Spanish football is The Royal Spanish Football Federation. League games such as La Liga, Copa del Rey and even the Spanish National Football Team are governed by the Royal Spanish Football Federation. The main reason why the game is so famous in Spain is because their national team is so good at it. They are the FIFA World Cup champions’ of 2010. Huelva Recreation Club is one of the first football clubs to be founded in Spain in 1889. However, the first football game was not played until 1890.

The different leagues have different clubs that play Spanish football under it. The most famous Spanish league is the La Liga. Although Copa del Rey and La Seleccion also has many famous clubs under it as well. In 1928, La Liga was formed with 20 teams under it which includes, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad, Arenas Club de Getxo and Real Union. Up till now a total of 59 teams have played in la Liga out of which nine of them have won the tournament. The two teams that have always been on top of this league are Real Madrid and Barcelona. One of these two have always to clutch the title with Real Madrid winning it about 31 times where as Barcelona has only won it 21 times. According to UEFA’s league coefficient, La Liga is at the 2nd number in the whole of Europe. About 30000 people watch it on a regular basis. The teams that are at the top qualify for the UEFA Champions league. In this the first three teams directly enter the group stage however; the fourth tam enters the playoffs. The teams at the fifth and the sixth number qualify for the UEFA Europa League.

Spanish football has made not just the whole of Spain but also the whole world fall in love with it. Sometimes people get so engrossed in the game that they forget that it is just a game and not the matter of life and death. Many unfortunate incidents have occurred because people take the game too seriously.
