Introduction

Although the financial and economic part of any sport tends to become more and more important, the most important part of every professional sport in this world still is the audience. This is the reason sports were born and survived though the centuries. This is a reason football is the most important and watched sport in the world. Football is a sport that gathers a lot of people around it. Football fans come from all over the world to see their favorite and the support that they usually offer is very intense. There are many ways in which football fans manifest their support (or their disappointment).

History

British fans are probably the most known in the world, which is not a surprise, considering football was invented in the United Kingdom. The thing that makes their reputation so big is the loyalty they offer. It is a much known fact that they offer exclusive and unconditional support to teams that wonder in the lower leagues for decades. British football fans always support their teams with high intensity, no matter of the performances they bring that season. They understand how the game is played really well. Football fans in Eastern Europe have a reputation of being very intense, but not always in a good way. They are noisy and produce a high pressure atmosphere, but their loyalty shatters rather quickly. If the course of the game progresses well for their own team, they offer great and loud support by singing and jumping all at once. If the game doesn’t go well for the home team, they lose their patience with ease and start showing their displeasure by whistling (the European version of a “boo”).

Features

Football fans in Turkey, Greece and Cyprus have a great reputation. The support they offer is unique, and, unlike fans in other Eastern European areas, is almost never shattered. There are many examples throughout the years of games where the home team is being lead with at least 3 or 4 goals and the intensity of the support is exactly the same as it was at the beginning of the game. Spanish football fans have a special way of showing their manifestations. They have almost no intensity and the atmosphere is more comparable to a theater play than to a football game. Because Spanish football always had a much more spectacular style of play, the public has bigger expectations from their teams. They are looking not only for a win, but for a creative and offensive game. The loyalty they offer is very high, public masses that show disappointment on a Spanish stadium being a rarity. However, when they do get upset and displeased for the team’s play, they waive white handkerchiefs.

Tips and comments

Football fans in South America, especially Brazil and Argentina are known all over the world. Some people consider them crazy, because of the unmatched intensity in which they treat and support their team. Football is almost a religion in countries like Brazil and Argentina and there is a big number of fans that actually put the team first in any circumstances, in front of family and friends.
