The navy football team represents the United States Naval Academy in NCCA Division I-A college football. Navy has 19 players in the team along with 3 coaches, in the college football hall of fame and they have won the National Championship in 1926 according to the board on Houlgate poll systems. Where ever there is a game, any game, there are rivalries. Just like for example Pakistan and India are in cricket, similarly Chelsea and Manchester United are in British football, whereas the case over here is similar. The navy team competes with the army; these are the rivalries among each other.

History

This game is played annually over the last weekend of the college football regular season in early December. This game is the most traditional and enduring rivalries in college football and is televised every year by CBS. It was in the army-navy game in the 1963 when the instant replay was introduced in football games. The uniform of the navy team has been familiar with blue and gold, this uniform has helped in creating one of the most familiar traditions in the history of college athletics. For the team mascots there are different animals which were used for this specific purpose, animals which include dog, a carrier pigeon, and two cats. In the late 1900’s goats became the permanent mascot for all of the Navy athletic teams. There are three goats that have currently served as mascots. Fifteen goat handlers take care of these mascots.

This great and unique combination of athletics and academics ensures that only the best man/player will graduate from the United States Naval Academy and become Navy’s finest. The players from the navy football will choose one of the 43 different majors that focus on 19 fields of study. In order to complete in one of the many athletic programs, midshipmen must meet the stringent NCAA eligibility requirements, including those requirements that deal with academic progress.

Similar uniform of blue and gold colors were adopted back in the 1892. The naval academy of class of 1890 first used these colors and within two years, the Athletic Association conferred with the Cadets to adopt these colors as now familiar Academy colors. The players of the navy football are provided with different facilities, which include coaches, physio’s, training centers etc. Training centers are mostly stadiums; football stadiums on which the international games are rarely played therefore the ground is used for training purposes by the football team. Locker rooms are provided in a safe building for the varsity of navy football and officers for navy football. Midshipmen, also known as Mids, are what the football teams are called. The members of the teams earn a varsity letter and receive an N-Star, if they are a part of that team which has beaten the army team in one of the star competitions.
