Introduction

The Vikings’ is the name the football team of the sate of Minnesota has. The players in that team are indeed the football Vikings, with a thirst for winning and an impressive rap sheet. This team also has gained much popularity because of the widely popular show “How I Met Your Mother.” One of the main characters on the show (Marshall Ericsson) is from Minnesota and thus is a die hard supporter of The Vikings. They currently play in the north division (previously the western conference) and their uniform displays the colors of purple, yellow and white. Their official logo is a Viking, playing further the fact that they consider themselves the football Vikings as well. The football Vikings have a sparkling history of their own and were the 14th franchise to appear in the NFL (National Football League).

History

The football Vikings name partially aims to reflect the fact that Minnesota is considered to be the center of Scandinavian culture, where the original Vikings came from (Scandinavia that is). The Viking horn is usually played for the football Vikings by their fans during home games which take place at the Mall of America Field in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They only won one NFL championship in the epic game versus the Cleveland Browns but this game won them a spot in the final versus the Kansas City Chiefs in super bowl IV, which they lost. Thus officially, the football Vikings do not consider this an NFL championship year. Besides this, the football Vikings have won 4 conference and 18 division championships.

Football is a very competitive game and loads of injuries happen, even at the professional level nonetheless players that are strong and committed make it to the hall of fame. Among Vikings hall famers are famous quarter backs Warren Moon and Frank Tarkenton. Fans wear the famous ‘Helga Hats’ that traditional Vikings are said to have worn (at home games). These hats’s are purple and have blonde braids in them along with horns on top of them. The team has its own song that is played every time it scores and the song is also played at half time.

Heavy publicity and great marketing strategies allowed the team management to secure a lot of sold match tickets from the very beginning. Also, as mentioned earlier, promotional strategies like the character of a famous tv show, loving the team also provides key publicity for the team. The team jersey is also very attractive and sales for the jersey provide ample royalty for the team. It is good to support a team if they perform well but what must be kept in mind is that if you truly love someone or something, you love them despite whether they doo good or bad. Thus true Viking fans love their team when they win, but also love them even if they don’t.
