In the United States of America college sports has always been very popular among sports fans. Most children who dream of playing any sport professionally start by playing in one of the best schools of those sports. Since there are many college level sports played it is organized under the banner of National Collegiate Athletics Association or the NCAA. The NCAA manages all games played by all schools in all the conferences and ensures a fair system throughout. Part of the NCAA is to manage sports played between colleges and those sports can be football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, ice hockey, and many other sports like swimming as well. Under the banner of NCAA is the Football bowl subdivision that organizes and manages the football championships played all over the country between two different colleges. In the Football Bowl Subdivision there is college team from Tennessee playing for the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

What You Should Know About Tennessee Football

Tennessee football was born in 1891 and it had not been a perfect start for them since they had no coach in their initial years even though they did win a few games. In 1899 they had their first head coach but he did not manage to take the team through the championship but it was not until 1911 that their new Head coach Clevenger joined the team to take them into their first Championship. They had their first home ground built in 1921. In 1938 they had their first national title and in 1998 they won their last national championship title and since then they have not been able to perform to an extent that would take them through the play offs.

Tennessee Football or the Tennessee Volunteers as they are more commonly known as have won 6 national titles and 16 conference titles and in total they won 792 games, lost 345, and the results were inconclusive in 53 of them. Their home ground or stadium is called the Neyland Stadium after one of Tennessee football coaches. The Tennessee football team runs on orange and white as their official color which can be seen from their team logo as well. Down the field is what they sing as their team song or which is sung by the Pride of Southland Band. The team mascot is Smokey the 9th, a hound. There are many traditions part of the Tennessee football team like any other football team, the large T that the team goes through before every match and the check board pattern on the touchdown side. The Tennessee football team is called the volunteers because of the name given to the state of Tennessee, the Volunteer State. Just like all other college teams Tennessee football team have their own rivals, these are the Crimson Tide, Gators, Bulldogs and the Wildcats. Derek Dooley is the current head coach of the team. Even though there have been no Heisman Trophy winners out of Tennessee football team, they still managed to get 38 All American Consensus players.
