Introduction

Everybody knows either from media or experience that in an airport, travelers are taken from the loading gates to their airplanes by airport bus or that in case of emergency the airport’s ambulance and fire extinguish squad appear on the runway landing. But what is the airport auto service and what vehicles does the airport auto service contain? The best answer is: “airplanes”. Big flying ships are built to carry both passengers and cargo and are the number one airport auto service stock vehicles.

Airport emergency Vehicles

In my opinion, some of the most important vehicles an airport auto service has are the Emergency Vehicles. In case of a crash there should be one or two ambulances available for giving first aid to any victims that are pulled out right away from the crashed ship, a fast extraction vehicle properly equipped with tools for extracting blocked passengers from the airplane. Nevertheless the essential vehicle an airport auto service must have is the fire-extinguishing truck, which has a special role in aviation accidents because of the kerosene’s fast ignition and airplane’s speed at landing (these two factors are the main cause of explosions during an aviation accident) by spraying foam onto the landing site of the wreck in order to avoid any fires or explosions.

Airport general use vehicles

Airport auto service is mainly formed by relocating buses for passengers that transport them from the boarding gates to the actual airplane, the loading bus is a special type of vehicle that has a ladder and it is used by the passengers to enter the airplane. Another airport auto vehicle that can be found on cargo airports is the forklift, used for loading bulky goods into airplanes’ cargos. Airport auto service must also contain a truck that carries luggage from the airport into the aircraft’s hold and a mobile tank that is responsible with carrying the kerosene to the aircrafts.

Kerosene is a special type of gasoline made out of crude oil in the refining process. Its main quality is that it is lighter than the average gasoline and therefore ideal for airplanes’ use. The snow plow is a type of vehicle that an airport’s auto service should contain, made to clear the runways, parking lots and any other tracks that the airbase might have of snow during winters, when the air traffic is still carried as planned and the airport is not shut down due to the rough weather.

Other airport vehicles

An airport can also have in its airport auto service several tractors which are used for pulling landed airplanes from the runway into hangars. Hangars are the aircraft’s “garages” where they receive technical maintenance and are stationed between flights. The security’s vehicles are also a part of airport auto service, vehicles meant to be used by the airport’s security officers to move fast through the airport in case of an emergency. Bigger airports may also have special taxis in their airport auto service destined for transporting from train stations to the airport passengers that have booked tickets for longer travels.
