Introduction

An island is a piece of sub-continental land surrounded by water, although when a piece of land is separated from the main land by a man-made canal is not generally referred to as island. There are two type of island that’s continental island and oceanic island. Continental island normally lies on the continental shelf of a continent while oceanic island do not sit on the continental shelf and the vast majority are as a result of volcanic activity. There are also desert island which are islands with no people therefore they exist in a state of being deserted or abandoned. But the climate is not that of an arid desert. We also have tropical island and there are estimated to 45,000 tropical islands on Earth and this includes, Maldives, Tonga, Hong Kong just to name a few. An archipelago is a group of islands or cluster of islands. For example Scotland has more than 700 islands surrounding its mainland. The most exotic island airport is samui airport in Thailand. History

Samui airport is located at the northern part of the Island near Bo Phut Beach and began construction in 1982 and was officially in april 1989. Samui international airport is also known as Ko samui international airport and is a privately owned airport on the island of ko samui in Thailand. The airport is located roughly 2 km north of the main village chaweng. Samui is the most exotic island airport as it is unusual airport because it has no indoor area, except gift shop. It is the sixth busy airport in Thailand handling more than a million passengers annually.

Features

Samui airport being the latest exotic airport has two terminal that is domestic and international . The international terminal is located 50 metres north of the domestic terminal. Samui airport is located near the big buddha pier where the ferries depart to ko pha ngan. Koh Samui resort hotel is situated within 5 minutes walking distance to the beach and only 15 minutes to the airport. The airstrip is 2,100 metres long, while the main facility is outfitted with the highest safety-standard equipment, modern communication, and its architecture built to naturally blend in with the island’s surrounding flora and fauna. In 1997 the airport was upgraded into a customs airport. The resulting enhancements comprises of immigration facilities, customs services and a new terminal.
