Georgia airports total up to about 458. These are spread out through different parts of Georgia. 107 of these Georgia airports are publicly used. These airports play a huge part towards the growth and development of Georgia’s economy. The airports are quite busy, which makes them an avenue for job opportunities to many residents. Here is a look at some of the best Georgia airports.

 

History

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport – This is not only the busiest of Georgia airports but, it is the world’s busiest airport as well. It has the highest passenger traffic at 89 million annually. It has also the most plane take offs and landings. Delta Air Lines is the primary carrier with nearly 60% of passengers in the airport. This airport also happens to be one of the largest of Georgia airports. It has a total of 199 gates and is the base for AirTran Airways and ExpressJet besides Delta Air Lines. A large percentage of almost 1 million flights are domestic. However, the airport serves flights from other parts of the world such Asia, Europe, Africa, North America, Central America and South America.

Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport – This is the second busiest commercial airport of all Georgia airports. Though it is termed an international airport, it mostly does domestic flights, many of which are to neighboring states. It is not that large, considering it has only fifteen gates. Annual passenger traffic is over 850,000 with over 96,000 flights coming in and taking off. Georgia airports are known for their modern design and great upkeep. Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is no different. The airport is served by airlines such as US Airways, Delta, American Eagle and United Airlines.

Columbus Metropolitan Airport (Georgia) – It is also one of the busy Georgia airports. It provides mostly commercial flights into the city with two main carriers, American Eagle and Delta Connection.

Athens-Ben Epps Airport – This airport is solely served by Georgia Skies. It is one of Georgia airports that has flights going to Atlanta on a daily basis. The airport is also known for its aviation classes.

Valdosta Regional Airport – Georgia has many public airports used for general aviation. This is one of Georgia airports utilized for that very purpose. It is located in Lowndes County.

Augusta Regional Airport – Up until 2000 it was known as Augusta Regional Airport at Bush Field. It is one of the popular Georgia airports because of the low passenger fares it offers as an incentive. It is served by US Airways, Delta Air Lines, American Eagle and Delta Connection.

Brunswick Golden Isles Airport – Another one of Georgia airports used for general aviation. It is located in Glynn County and operates only one commercial airline, Delta Connection.

The main airports in Georgia are Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport. The other Georgia airports are much smaller in comparison and are mostly used for flights within the state. Many of them are owned by the county in which they are located though they are for public use.
