The history of Thanksgiving dates back to the 1500s when the Europeans migrated to the America. They celebrated this day to rejuvenate and enjoy after all the hard work they had put throughout the year. This day was celebrated after the harvest season. Like all the major cities of United States Thanksgiving day is also celebrated in the beautiful city of Chicago. Cheers to the street council of 1936 that prompted the state government to make this day a public holiday.

Chicago is located in the state of Illinois and it is rich in population. It is amongst the leading cities in the world because of the main financial centers and entrepreneurial offices that reside in this city. There are quite a number of landmarks in Chicago including the “Sears tower” which is now known as the “Willis tower” and one of the tallest buildings in the world. Not just this you will also find the stunning John Hancock Center, the Wrigley building and the Trump tower. The most unusual thing about this holiday than the rest is that a huge parade is organized on this day which is called as the “Thanksgiving Day parade”. For years the “Thanksgiving Day parade” in New York City had been named as the most successful one but now Chicago too is chipping in. Thanksgiving Day parade that takes place in the streets of Chicago is also known as the Mc Donald’s Thanksgiving Day parade. In 2011 Thanksgiving Day parade was attended by almost 400000 residents of Chicago and it was considered as one of the massive and spectacular Thanksgiving Day parade in the whole of United States. Each year More than 100 variable groups take part in the parade. These groups are composed of Marching Bands, Equestrian units, Specialty units, Giant inflatable and floats. The most eye catching thing at this parade was the huge mascot of Mc Donald’s also known as the “Teddy turkey” and it remains as the focal attention for kids. Marching bands from all over the country come and wholly participate by playing different instruments. The sky covering the Chicago remains filled with the Helium balloons. Different volunteers or school kids come in and become the part of equestrian unit. The specialty unit is referred to the adroit performers or dancers who never cease to let go of the attention of the people. These dancers are sometimes local residents of Chicago or they are hired from other cities. Artists and other performers of the entertainment industry also participate in the “Thanksgiving Day parade” and lighten up the whole scene.
