As most of Russia is extremely cold almost all year around, it’s better to spend your Russia vacations in the western part of the country. Most of Russia’s tourist attractions are fortunately concentrated there as well. We start off with the Russian capital that is Moscow. It’s a modern, expensive city which is full of happening places. If historical places are what you want, then the famous red square should be your first stop. The stunning St. Basil's Cathedral is found there. The mausoleum for the Russian leader Lenin and the state history museum are also in the vicinity. A visit to the Pushkin museum and the Ostankino Tower should also be on your list. Ostankino Tower (1772 feet) was the tallest structure in the world at one time. If you feel like breaking away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Gorky Park is the perfect green spot in the city center. A somewhat modern attraction could be the new Arbat Street. Here you can dine, dance and drink. Next comes the city of St. Petersburg. It was the capital of Russia for over 200 years. It is full of historical and cultural landmarks. Countless museums are spread across the city. The most famous being the Hermitage. Its spans across six buildings and has on display both works of art and historical artifacts from all over the world. Performing arts are also one of St. Petersburg’s specialties. The world renowned Mariinsky Theater is one of the major attractions. Furthermore the areas surrounding the black sea coast are popular tourist destinations too.  The temperature and environment there are very unlike the normal Russian ones. Warm tropical weather dominates during the summer, allowing for beach activities like swimming and water sports. There are three main cities there, Gelendzhik, Anapa and Sochi. In winters, Sochi serves as a skiing destination. To merit there quality of skiing available there, it is important to note that 2014 winter Olympics will be held there.
