Introduction
It’s that time of the year again when putting on three shirts is not going to be enough. If you’re looking to spend your winter vacations somewhere in the United States, then a winter vacation in Maine maybe what you’re looking for. It’s almost amazing how many people know nothing about Maine. It seems many Americans do not care about any other state other than the one they live in. To many, travelling to a different state is no different than travelling to a different country. If only people knew what they were missing out on. Maine has so many experiences to offer and may very well surprise you if you give it a chance.
History
Maine became an independent state in 1820. Before that it used to be part of the northern state of Massachusetts. Maine is a generally cool state and the people living there have adjusted to the cold weather. Summer comes along too, but the heat isn’t as bad as the other states. The summers are often enjoyably warm in Maine. The state locals have come up with great activities and fascinating places worth visiting as an attraction for outsiders. Winter vacations in Maine are always an exciting adventure.
Features
The one activity that is famous throughout Maine is snowmobiling. During the winters, people rent snowmobiles together and go off to visit places such as the beautiful Baxter state park. They race around in their snowmobiles all day and have great barbeques at night. Perhaps the right word to describe this fun is: chilling. Money is usually not an issue since companies don’t charge you a lot on snowmobiles, and as a matter of fact, money is not going to be a problem throughout your winter vacations in Maine. As for accommodation, Maine has incredibly beautiful cabins and guest houses to offer. Nothing beats the serenity of coming back from a tiring day to your lovely cabin amongst the trees. Another great activity for the winters is skiing. And no, skiing is not as dangerous as portrayed in many movies and you don’t have to worry about running into a tree and hurting yourself. Plus there is nothing quite better than to whoosh right through cold air and feel like you are unstoppable. And yet another incredible activity that Maine offers is hiking. Hiking is also not as dangerous as perceived. Indeed you’ll be hanging from a mountain and it may look like you’ll die if you let go, but once you get a hang of it, you’ll feel this urge to get right to the top and scream your lungs out in joy. Hunting is also an activity offered in Maine, however, due to growing numbers of vegetarians, and animal right activists, let’s not get into that.
