History
The first settlement to be established in what is now known as Tucson, Arizona was in 1775. This was Spanish settlement and was named the Presidio San Agustin del Tucson. Later in 1821 the area of Tucson became part of Mexico when Mexico declared independence from the Spanish empire. It was not until the Gladsden Purchase in 1854 that Tucson was to become part of the United States of America. In 1880, the population of Tucson was close to 8,000 and it was at this time that the Southern Pacific Railroad reached the city of Tucson. In 1912 Arizona became the 48th state to become part of the American Union. Winters in Tucson have a very pleasant daytime average ranging from 18C and 24C (64F – 75F). The summers of Tucson can be a little too warm for playing golf especially June, July and August but the rest of the year is perfect.
