History

In 1505, Juan De Bermudez, a Spanish captain, glimpsed Bermuda from his ship and discovered it. Bermuda was eventually named after him. The real history of Bermuda began in 1609, when a fleet of ships along with Sir George's Sea Venture, landed ashore on the island during a vicious storm. The few remaining survivors were stranded for almost ten months. During this period, they built two ships called Deliverance and Patience solely from the material they stripped off from the ruins of ships. They also stocked a lot of food. The ships set sail for Jamestown in Virginia in 1610. When the crew arrived, they found the settlers of the town to be starved and diseased. The crew survived the starvation because of the food they had stored. In 1612, Virginia sent 60 settlers to Bermuda. The early colony of Bermuda was divided into nine equal parts. Tourism started around the Victorian times. The wealthy parties came to relax and plenty came in a hope to marry off their daughters to officers. In 1930s several airlines began flying to Bermuda. Today it consists of a string of 180 islands and is one of the most visited places in the world.

Long Bay beach is a secluded stretch of a sand loved by the locals. The Nature Reserve is a lovely park right next to the Bay where you can see migratory birds, fowl and fresh water ponds.
