History
Interestingly enough, the Cayman Islands were found y Christopher Columbus on his tour of the New World. Little Cayman and Cayman Brac were seen in 1503 in May by Columbus and this was done on his very last journey. Columbus was thrown off his course during his way from Panama to Hispaniola and this little detail allowed him to discover the islands. He saw a number of sea turtles there which made him call the island Las Tortugas and Columbus went on to write about these islands as very small ones that were full of tortoises even in the sea; so much so that they looked like little rocks.
