Introduction
The word ‘SCUBA’ is the abbreviation of Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. That means swimming under water using Scuba. This apparatus consists of a cylinder filled with compressed gas for breathing, fins and gauges, breathing regulators, face masks and buoyancy devices. The cylinder of compressed gas is usually filled with air. Sometimes other gases are also filled in to help stay under water for a much longer period of time, even hours. Outdoor activities are gaining popularity and scuba diving vacations are becoming a very famous outdoor recreational activity. Above 70 percent of the earth’s surface is covered with water. Since prehistory the mystery and charm of the underwater world has enthused the human imagination. History
People started their advances underwater nearly three centuries ago. They used diving bells and large cumbersome sealed suits which used to pump air from the surface. It is only until now that recent technologies have allowed us to visit these magnificent places safely using self-contained air delivery systems that are extremely comfortable. Although these air-assisted underwater have been known since the 1700s, it was out of the reach of an average person and the luxury of recreational scuba diving vacations was unimaginable and undreamed of. It was not until the 1930s that the ‘Scuba’ system was produced. These early Scubas were very unwieldy and spurted air constantly on the diver’s face. The discovery of the Aqua Lung led to a new milestone in this field. However, it was not until 1960 that Aqua Lung was proven to be reliable and thus, sport diving was born.

Due to the nature of this activity, danger is a real concern. We are placing ourselves in an unfamiliar environment, so not only do we need good training but also good equipment.
