Introduction

Acne rid has been known to cause scarring on the face, back, arm and other skin areas. A severe case of acne rid is a medical condition that is treated by a Dermatologist. There are many choices available to eliminate acne rid scars. Knowing about each choice will assist a person in selecting the best acne rid scar treatment.

Step 1

Dermabrasion is an acne rid scar removal process where a dermatologist removes several layers of skin at the site of the acne rid scars. The doctor will numb the acne rid area before starting the removal of skin layers, which is called sanding. For most people, recovery time from this method is 2-3 weeks. The treated area will develop scabs, and once the scabs drop off, the treated skin will have a healthy smooth appearance. Micro Dermabrasion is different from this treatment, as it only removes the very top layer of skin. Dermabrasion is best for patients with extremely dark or extremely pale skin. Individuals with a medium skin color should look at other acne rid scar treatment.

Step 2

Laser resurfacing is a new technique for acne rid scar removal. The process involves using a laser to remove acne scarring. The two lasers that are used for this procedure are the CO2 and YAG laser. Both lasers achieve the same results, so the use of either laser is merely a physician’s preference. The laser resurfacing approach works in a comparable method as dermabrasion. A laser is used to remove skin layers where acne scarring has occurred, so that new skin can grow. Recovery time for this procedure is two weeks and a topical medication is often prescribed by the physician. If the acne scarring is deep, bandaging may be needed as well as the applied topical medication.

Step 3

A chemical peel is an ideal treatment for people with extremely mild acne scarring. For this procedure, a variety of acids are applied to the top layer of scarred skin and removed 15 minutes later. This treatment is only applied to the first layer of skin and is not recommended for people with deep scarring. Swelling and redness are the most common side effects to this procedure. Recovery time is usually a few days, but could be as long as two weeks, depending on how much acid was used on the scarred area.

Step 4

The skin punch procedure is for people with deep pitted acne scarring. A layer of scarred skin is removed, and the area is cleaned. The next step is to remove skin plugs from a healthy area of the body and place the plugs where the scarred layer was previously removed. Once this treatment has been completed, a second acne rid scarring procedure can be performed. The recovery time is contingent on how much skin has been replaced and if any other treatments were performed.

Step 5

The augmentation procedure is performed by a dermatologist in their office. The doctor will inject collagen under the skin to smooth the area affected by the scarring. In some instances, fat can be extracted from other areas of the body and injected into the scarred area. The recovery time for this procedure is short, usually only a few days.
