What Does It Mean When Skin Has Red Blotch

Introduction

Having a red blotch on your face is usually due to inflammation. This inflammation is caused by a number of skin disorders. The red blotch can also come with other symptoms such as itching, burning, bumps or acne. Some red blotches may require immediate medical attention so it is wise if you are unsure of why your face suddenly is blotching it is a good idea to make an appointment to see your doctor.

 

One reason for a red blotch on your face could be rosacea. Millions of Americans have rosaca which mainly affects the cheeks, nose, forehead and chin areas. Rosacea in prominent in people between the ages of 30 and 60, coming in stages. This skin condition is not reversible and has no cure.

Another cause for a red blotch forming on your skin is acne. Acne affects not only teenagers but adults as well. Contrary to popular belief acne is not caused by the foods you eat such as pizza, chocolate or other greasy foods. Rather pimples are caused by bacteria, dirt and too much oil below the skin.

A person may have developed hives which will result in a red blotch or several blotches across your face. A person develops hives because of some allergic reaction to something like medication, being bit by some insect or certain foods. The hives can appear anywhere on your body, legs, arms, face and neck. Sometimes they go away, but other times you will need some form of treatment for them.

For older women going through hot flashes, they may notice during an episode that their face becomes hot with a red blotch in several places. There are other signs of a hot flash that include dizziness, sweating, rapid heartbeat, and weakness. There is really no known treatment to prevent hot flashes, but your physician should be able to give you something to ease the symptoms to make your life more bearable.

Having the measles can give a person a red blotch all over their skin. This is a rash that affects mainly children. Besides the red blotches it normally comes along with a fever, cough, runny nose and sore throat.

You will have to keep track of a few things to rule out different possibilities of the exact cause of your blotchy skin. First think about the present weather. Is the weather windy? Is the weather sunny or cold? Extreme weather can play a part in making a red blotch on your skin.

Determine if you are allergic to anything. The red blotch could be a result of an allergen maybe from a particular detergent you are using, a perfume or maybe a cleanser. Think about your diet and the foods that you eat. Dry, reddened skin can be from eating poorly along with stress.

Another item to consider is if you have an infection. You may have an infection called Impetigo which is a contagious skin condition that causes dry blotchy red skin. Impetigo though is not dangerous and does not cause harm. It is only bothersome with it affecting the appearance of your skin. However, it can be harmful if a secondary bacterial infection should arise.
