Common Diseases Of the Throat

Introduction

There are many different common causes of throat issues. One of the most common diseases of the throat that you can get is a sore throat. Most people do not consider this to be a disease, but it can be classified as one. There are many different things that can cause you to have a sore throat and it can be caused by either a viral or bacterial infection. A bacterial infection is often cured with antibiotics and a viral infection just has to run its course, and heal on its own.

History

One of the most common diseases of the throat is strep throat. It is caused by a bacteria and most people will get it from late fall into the spring time. It will cause a very painful sore throat and is highly contagious. Once you are contagious, you can and will infect people for up to three weeks, even after all of your symptoms have disappeared. After going to the doctor, he will most likely give you antibiotics and this will take away your ability to infect anyone else within 24-48 hours. Some of your symptoms will include a fever, headache and swollen lymph nodes. It will most often affect children between 5-15 years of age. You will need plenty of rest and warm and cold liquids, which will also keep you hydrated. After having a bout of strep throat, make sure to change your tooth brush.

Another very common diseases of the throat is tonsillitis. Tonsillitis will make your throat feel like it is being coated with sand paper. It is caused by a bacterial infection or virus. You can look at your tonsils in a mirror to see if they are red and swollen. If they are, drinking warm soothing liquids will help. You may also have other signs that include headache, chills, loss of voice, sore throat and tender lymph nodes. Treatment will depend on if it is bacterial or viral. If bacterial, you will have to take antibiotics to get rid of it. If it is viral, it will have to just run its course. The other common diseases of the throat is just having a sore throat. This can be caused from a number of different things and if you feel okay other wise; you can probably take care of it by taking pain pills and gargling with salt water. Lemon in warm tea also helps to soothe the throat.

Tips and comments

Sometimes having a sore throat could signal a more serious issues that is not associated with a common diseases of the throat. If you find yourself having a hoarse throat and lots of pain, it may be worth a trip to the doctor to see what is going on. It will be better for you and your doctor if it does turn out that you have cancer to get the start on treatment. It is not saying that you do have cancer if you have issues with your throat, but it could signal an issue that should be further investigated.
