The immune system helps you to fight off common colds and other viruses and bacteria. Sometimes, your immune system does not work that well and even the common cold can make you very sick. There is no known reason why some people’s immune system does not work as great as another person’s, but it does happen. When your immune system is not working properly, this can make getting the slightest cold a nightmare. When the immune system works right it helps to fight off viruses, bacteria and even some cancer.

There are over 465 different causes of immune system issues. There is no known reason why the immune system has issues in some people and not all people. One of the biggest causes of immune deficiency is either an illness or an infection. There are certain normal diseases or illnesses that make the immune system weak and they include: chicken pox, tuberculosis, hepatitis and certain cancers. Brain trauma can also cause issues with the immune system. One of the biggest diseases of the immune system is AIDS, which stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. It interrupts the immune system and makes people who have AIDS get infections easier. The virus HIV and AIDS usually go hand in hand with each other. There is no known cure for the virus but medicine has been shown to slow the progression of the symptoms that go with AIDS. Many people can live full lives with the HIV virus, they just have to be very careful and not get around people who are sick, because a common cold can cause one with HIV to get pneumonia and end up in the hospital.

Another common diseases of the immune system is asthma. Asthma is a condition that affects the lungs of the person suffering from it. Because their immune system is compromised, it can make the common cold turn into an asthma attack and they can end up in the hospital. Some of the drugs that are taken to help fight asthma have been known to cause the immune system to weaken and this can cause issues with people. One reason why asthmatics have problems with their immune system is that many of the drugs to help treat asthma have steroids in them. Steroids, while they are good for asthmatics that are having an exacerbation, it can also weaken the immune system.

Having diseases of the immune system means that you have to be careful and take extra precautions. Try to limit the time that you are around sick people. You can also help yourself by making sure that you get enough rest and eat healthy. By taking care of yourself, you are lowering your risk of getting sick and ending up in the hospital. It can be scary to have a disease that affects your immune system, but by taking extra care and listening to your doctor, you should be okay.
