Introduction to Skin Conditions and Diseases

Skin conditions and diseases are often caused by a wide range of things. Some people have naturally occurring skin conditions and diseases from birth, such as dermatitis and eczema. Others occur as a result of environmental factors, like athletes foot, bed bugs, and allergic rashes. One of the worst skin conditions that a person can get is cancer, and depending on the stage at which it is diagnosed, it can usually be treated effectively.

If you want to protect yourself from a skin disease, you should first look towards your diet. A well balanced diet will lead to a well balanced immune system, which in turn means that you will be less likely to suffer from a condition. In addition to this, you should use non-bio washing powders; bio washing powders are far more likely to lead to rashes and contact dermatitis. When in hot countries, or tropical environments, wear insect repellent to avoid being stung by anything nasty.

There once was a time where skin conditions and diseases were accepted as a part of day-to-day life. Until the 20th century, consistent sanitation was almost unheard of, even in developing countries. This means that those who were members of the working classes would often sleep amongst animals, or even where they defecated. This meant that they were more likely to contract the skin conditions and diseases that are associated with unclean living.

In the late 1950s, the medical field of dermatitis began to evolve. More doctors began to pay attention to conditions that were emerging and affecting people's skin, and in response to this they would develop treatments and offer their patients advice. Since that point in time, it has been possible for those who want to protect themselves from getting such conditions to take steps to keep them at bay.

Features of Skin Conditions and Diseases

The type of skin conditions and diseases you may will want to avoid will all have a variety of features. One of the most common ones is itching; itching tends to occur with eczema, dermatitis, and also when people have allergic reactions. 

Another common factor with such diseases is a rash. Rashes can be raised, flat, red, pink--in fact they can take many forms. It is often difficult to distinguish between rashes, so if you do develop a skin condition or disease with a rash and you are worried, you should consult a physician.

Finally, one of the most common features of skin conditions and diseases is that they will appear when you do certain things. Whether this is eating a certain type of food, taking certain medications, or going out in the sun, you may find you develop one as a result.

  • If you want to prevent a condition like athletes's foot, make sure you wash your feet on a regular basis and alternate your shoes. This is particularly important if you are someone who is on their feet a lot, or involved in sports.
  • If someone in your household has a skin condition or disease, try to keep your distance as far as physical contact is concerned. Although not all conditions are contagious, many are, and keeping your distance is a great way to prevent yourself from getting one.
  • If you regularly use public swimming baths or the gym, practice extra hygiene when using shared washing facilities. This can include using antibacterial wipes on your hands and feet, as well as wearing waterproof shoes when in the shower.
