Introduction

There are many fungi diseases affecting different parts of the body, but the most common one is skin infection. To start with, there are both toxic and non toxic fungi. An example of the former type is some harmful yeast while an example of the latter is some types of edible mushrooms. These fungi usually produce micotoxins which when they penetrate the body through the skin or airways, they end up causing fungi diseases. A wrong diagnosis of fungal infection can sometimes have harmful repercussions and doctors need to know the exact symptoms of the diseases and which tests are accurate in diagnosis.

Types of Fungi Attack and Examples

There are four major types of these diseases fungi that a person can be exposed to and they include the following:
1. Systematic fungi infections
2. Mycotoxicosis through food fungi poisoning.
3. Mycetismus – simply toadstool poisoning or the ingestion of toxins that are preformed.
4. Hypersensitivity –mainly manifests in the form of allergic reactions especially of the skin.
From the above types, some of the common fungal diseases known to affect humans include the following:
• Jock itch
• Ringworm
• Athlete’s foot
Other than the skin, other areas that are susceptible to fungal attacks include:
• The digestive tract
• The mouth
• Lungs
• The vagina.

Tips and comments

Sometimes, the symptoms of fungi diseases can keep on recurring even after correct treatment has been administered. In such cases, the fungal attack might be a manifestation of another disease that is more dangerous and untreated, for instance diabetes or HIV/AIDS. One particular example could be vaginal yeast infection. Always seek medical assistance whenever a fungal attack recurs.
