Introduction

Respiration is an essential function of all living organisms. Via respiration, the body of the organism is able to take in oxygen and give out carbon dioxide. Oxygen is used in the body for the process of generating energy, which in turn helps in carrying out all the other major functions. In humans due to various factors, especially due to pollution and smoking habits, chronic respiratory diseases might develop. Various types of chronic respiratory diseases have been identified until date in numerous cases, by medical science. In order to identify cases for chronic respiratory diseases you need to know about the symptoms and the associated tests involved in detecting them.

Step 1

Inflammatory lung disease: This is one of the most popular chronic respiratory diseases where the affected person shows high count of neutrophil count in the blood. Generally, this disease is caused due to other medical conditions like emphysema, cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, asthma, and more. Simple blood tests are often enough to decide whether a person is affected by this disease or not.

Step 2

Obstructive lung diseases are of various types. For example chronic bronchitis, asthma, emphysema, and more. all can lead to chronic respiratory diseases of obstructive type. This medical condition is generally termed as the blockage of the airways in the lungs, which in turn leads to decreased level of free flow of gas. So the person generally faces issues with normal breathing in numerous occasions and especially in places with high pollution or of high altitude.

Step 3

A restrictive lungs disease is one of the chronic respiratory diseases in which the elasticity of the lungs is decreased. We all know that the lungs need to expand in order to take in air, and need to constrict in order for expiration of air. So people facing such diseases are often seen with symptoms like difficulty in normal breathing, becoming tired very easily or even other issues with the body. Generally, people who have smoking habit tend to develop these diseases.

Step 4

Malignant and benign tumors are also considered to be a part of chronic respiratory diseases. In case of malignant tumors, the person tends to develop either small cell cancer or non small cell cancer. Benign tumors on the other hand are seen in those people who develop a lump of mass in the respiratory region. However, the tumors being non-malignant in nature does not give rise to cancerous growths or even does not show metastasis property. These cases can be better identified via X-ray and doing biopsy tests to determine the malignancy of the tumor.

Step 5

There are various forms of tests to determine the various chronic respiratory diseases Among these popular tests include X-rays, bronchoscopy, biopsy of the pleura of the lungs region, CAT scan (Computer aided Tomography), Test of the pulmonary functions of the body, Ventilation, ultrasound,  and more. Sometimes the doctor might even ask the affected person to undergo certain blood tests. These blood tests help in the further treatment that has to be prescribed.
