Laypersons Description Of Pinworm Disease

Introduction

To be able to explain something in laypersons terms, is taking out all of the big medical jargon and using simple words that common people can understand. This does not mean that someone is not smart; it just means that most people do not understand terminology that is used by doctors and nurses. Medical terms can be very confusing to regular people who have never studied medicine before, or been around someone who was very sick. Laypersons terms are easier to understand.

History

Pinworm disease is a common issue among people. It does not care who you are or what your social standing is. Having pinworms does not mean you are a dirty person, it just means that you picked up a disease that most people get at least once in their life time. It does not care if you are young or old, even though those two groups tend to get it more than any other age group. One of the reasons is the closeness that theses age groups share, the younger being in school and the elderly being in a nursing home. Most people that end up with pinworm disease do not even realize that they have it, and most often go to the doctor for another unrelated issue and the doctor will ask questions and might suspect that you have pinworms by the answers that you give.

Features

In laypersons terms most cases of pinworms happen when we touch something that the infected person touched and they did not wash their hands after going to the bathroom. If you touch another item that an infected person touched and put your hands by your mouth, then you will more than likely pick up a case of pinworms. Pinworms move down through your small intestine and once that happens, the female lays her eggs and they usually show up at night around the anus and can cause itching. The itching happens because the females are more active at night. Pinworms do not cause any serious health issues, but they can cause a secondary infection around the anus when the skin is broken from all of the scratching. Pinworms can cause other infection in females, when the worms move from the anus to the vagina along the perineum in layperson’s terms that is the skin between the vagina and the anus. Sometimes the worms will find their way to the vagina and cause itching to take place. Again, it is very easy to get medicine from the doctor to cure pinworms and some people do not even realize that they had them.

Tips and comments

If your child has them, in laypersons terms, make sure you make them wash their hands every time they go to the bathroom when they are at home. Stress the importance of having good hygiene in place so that you can stop the pinworms from spreading around to the whole family. It is also a good idea to teach children not to put things by their mouths, because they are full of germs. Remember, anyone can get pinworms, it does not mean that you are a dirty person. Also take the time to explain to your child in laypersons terms how important it is to not share items with another person who might be sick.
