What are the different causes of heart diseases

Cardiovascular disease involve the damage of the heart or the blood vessels. The term basically means any disease that affects the heart. However, before discussing what a heart disease is and how it affects the cardiovascular system, one should know how the heart functions. The heart is like a pump, it is the size of your fist and it is located at the left side of your chest. The heart is divided into two parts; the left and the right. This helps the oxygen that is rich in blood to not mix with the poor oxygen blood and returns the latter, after circulating it throughout the body. The blood is collected and pumped to the lungs through the atrium and ventricle with the help of the pulmonary arteries. The function of the lung is to clarify the blood and enrich it with more oxygen, turning it into red after which this fresh blood enters the left side of your heart; aorta pumps the blood from here so that new tissues are supplied with more oxygen. The disruption of this system is amongst the causes of heart diseases however, there are other different causes of heart diseases as well, which are mentioned further below.

History

What are the different causes of heart diseases

The heart consists of four valves, which keep the blood moving in the right direction. These valves open and close each heartbeat. Heart diseases are basically the damage caused to the heart or to the blood vessels due to atherosclerosis, which is known to be a buildup of plaque in the arteries. Arteries should be healthy and strong because they carry oxygen from the heart to the rest of the body. If pressure is exerted onto the arteries it can thicken the wall, which can lessen the blood flow to the organs and other tissues. This is known as arteriosclerosis and is a case in which the arteries are hardened. This is very common and is one of the major causes of heart diseases. It is generally caused by a sedentary lifestyle and smoking.
