What Are Infectious Skin Diseases?

Introduction

Infectious diseases are health problems that affect skin and its texture due to infections. The infectious skin diseases are inflammatory conditions which are due to disease process going on, the disease are transferrable and problematic, too. As they leads to social isolation that’s why the infectious skin diseases are a taboo. The major skin problems are infections, hereditary problems, congenital problems, endocrinal disorders, circulatory etiology and neoplasms or tumors. The infectious skin diseases are predisposed by these problems or their chronic nature may lead to these problems.

History

Infectious skin diseases can be due to bacterial, viral, fungal and parasites and animal bites etc. Infectious skin diseases are different from dermatitis as it includes inflammation while dermatitis has different etiology. Infectious skin diseases are also transmitted by direct contact as the agent is present in skin lesions. Rash, blisters, itching and red patchy areas are symptoms. These diseases can be even transmitted by your pets, like dogs and cats. The lesions can be superficial to deep depending upon the extent of infectivity of the agent while the immune status of the patient is also important. Some infectious skin diseases can be due to immune deficiency and they might appear as raised lesions or super infection by normal skin bacteria. Sometimes conditions like surgical wounds, cuts and stings may get rotten enough to invite infectious agents like bacteria and viruses to infect these lesions, such situation will be labeled as secondary infections.

Features

Shingles caused by varicella virus, scabies caused by a parasite and is highly infectious disease, acne vulgaris is the other commonest cause creating a mess of a teenager’s life. The hot tub folliculitis is also common owing to the practice of baths in general public whirlpools etc., it mainly affects hair follicles. An intense red bacterial infection is erysipelas and the problem is seen in face and legs usually. Rocky mountain fever is a zoonotic disease carried to man via a tick vector, and cause spots and fever which might get dangerous if not treated properly. Next in the common are list of fungi infectious skin diseases which are relatively very common. The athlete’s foot I known to all, ring shaped lesion in athletes are seen due to yeast infection. The yeast inhabiting skin as a commensal may also get activated to infect it and cause fungal infection of any part of body. The viral diseases that appear as skin rashes are: chicken pox, measles, and rubella. Jock itch is also among common infectious skin diseases, that affects men.
