All types of garments need to be dry cleaned for saving them, but that’s not the thing in case of silk. You may already know about taking care of your silk clothing but read on to find out more about it.

Step 1

What you should never use for silk

Silk is a form of natural protein and there is a long list of products, which cannot be used on silk clothing. One of the products is bleach. Bleach is known for taking out the color from silk and should not be used on any silk clothing.

Step 2

Another harmful product for silk clothing is harsh detergents, and they are known to create holes and rips in silk. If your silk clothes are stained by any chance, then the best thing, you can do is to soak them overnight in cold water. This will work only before the stains set deep into the clothes so you need to be alert and careful.

The best way to take care of silk clothing such as scarves, dress or blouse, is by washing them with a detergent which is mild. Don’t wash your silk clothes in washing machines as that can be too harsh for the fabric. Always wash your silk clothes by hand and don’t expose them to the harsh washing process of a machine. If you don’t have time for hand washing, then you can put your silk clothes in a machine after putting them in a bag.

Step 4

Use a lingerie bag for putting all the silk clothing as it’s extremely delicate in nature. The usage of the lingerie bag will ensure that your silk clothes last for as long as you live! There are certain products specifically meant for silk, and you can buy any one of them. You can also use a mild soap for washing your silk clothes as they are gentle on the fabric. Never place your silk clothes in a dryer and always hang them out to dry.
