Introduction

When you are wanting to make a clothing hoody, there are several factors that you need to keep in mind. Hoody clothing is a rather advanced sewing project, so you must know some advanced sewing techniques to be able to accomplish this project. This is not the time to free-form or try to go out on your own and sew this. You must use a good pattern and a high quality sewing machine. This project will take some time to accomplish, so make sure that you have plenty of time to devote to it without getting frustrated.

Step 1

The first step to making hoody clothing is to get all of your measurements. Most patterns come by different sizes, but it is still important to know some basic measurements so that you don't have a hoody clothing that is too big or too small. Knowing your measurements will keep everything in order as you begin this sewing project. Make sure that you have your measurements recorded so that you can refer back to them as needed. The most important measurements to get right on this project are the neck and the sleeve length.

Step 2

Buying your fleece is very important when you are making your hoody clothing. You want to use the highest quality of fleece and make sure that you get the proper grade of thickness for your hoody project. It is important that you have extra footage of fleece, especially if this is your first time attempting such a project. Having extra fleece will ensure that if you make a mistake, that you will have backup fabric to make sure that you can fix any issues that you make a mistake on. This will save you a lot of aggravation in the long run.

Step 3

Once you have your fleece picked out and ready, it is time to begin your hoody clothing project. You will first need to mark your pattern with a clothing marker. This should be done on the underside of the fleece. Since the pen is washable, you should not have any stains, but it is still best to mark the underside, just to be sure. Make sure that you trace each pattern piece to the letter and be very careful as you attempt this. This is not the time to rush and mess up your pattern or fleece pieces. With most patterns, you should have two arm pieces, two body pieces, and a hoody piece.

Step 4

It is important to note that you also need to purchase your arm bands and waist bands. You should be able to get these pieces from a quality fleece provider. These bands are sold by the foot and you will need both kinds to make your project. When you begin sewing your pieces together, it is so important that you follow the pattern directions exactly. If you are off in your hoody clothing design will be off and the project will not look as it should.

Step 5

Once you have sewn all of your pieces together, it is important to place your bands in the appropriate areas and make sure that they are sewn on in the best manner to create a nice look for your hoody clothing. The pattern should give you information on placement. It is important to refer to your pattern often so that you continue to follow the directions as closely as possible. Avoid holding the fleece too taught as this can cause your stitches to buckle up and make your hoody clothing design look off.
