Introduction

If you have an eye for fashion and the interest in fashion as well as a passion for it, then attending a fashion school may be a great idea for you. The fashion industry is an rewarding career and choosing a great fashion school is the very first step to becoming a fashion designer.

Things to Consider

When choosing a fashion school, you'll want to consider a couple important things:

  1. You will want to consider your area of focus. There are a ton of different sub categories of fashion you could get into, however, not all fashion schools offer training in these sub categories. It is probably a better idea that you attend a school that is only known for it's fashion courses.
  2. You also will want to research the school and see what types of things they accomplished. Schools that are renown in the fashion world are definitely the best bet. For example, schools that have been in fashion design competitions are probably more serious about educating their students.
  3. You will also want to consider what they help you with after you graduate. Some schools will assist their alumni with finding job placement. However, some schools do not offer this service. It is a smart idea to make sure you attend a fashion school that offers job placement assistance and one that has a number of connections in the fashion industry.
  4. You also will want to consider the accreditation of the school. Unfortunately, many people often look past this and then once they graduate, they find out most employee's will not take their schools accreditation. When a school is accredited, it means that the school has passed the educational standards of The Department of Education.
  5. Another important thing to consider is the cost of the fashion school. You will want to make sure you can afford tuition, as most fashion design school's will not offer financial aid or loans.
