Step 2

Another important factor you should take into consideration is the eligibility criteria of the Fashion Institute of Technology.Admission in to this institute is quite selective,and in order to give yourself the best chances of succeeding you will need to submit grades in college preparatory coursework and a student essay, and a portfolio for review. Additionally students are judged in accordance to their class rank ,and  will need a average grade of B to apply. 

High school students can not apply to a bachelor's degree program, instead they must first apply for an associate's degree program. Aftre this is complete then they may apply for a bachelors degree. 

Step 3

The admission process at the Fashion Institute of Technology is split into two distinct stages. Stage one is to file the SUNY Application online. After you have submitted this application form you will receive two letters confirming that your application has been received. The first one will be from SUNY  Application Services Center, and the second will be from  FIT to the email address indicated on your SUNY application. This email will include your assigned Student Identification Number and FIT User name and Password. This email will arrive 7-10 days after submitting your SUNY application. 

Step 4

The second stage of your application to the Fashion Institute of Technology is to submit  FIT’s Supplemental Admissions Materials. These include Online Academic History and Essay form, School transcripts, Portfolio, and English Proficiency TOEFL Score or IELTS Score ( international students).

The Online Academic History and Essay: To submit this information you will need to access MyFit using your received  FIT User name and Password. The topic for your essay will center upon the following questions,  What makes you a perfect candidate for FIT? Why are you interested in the major you are applying to? This essay should not be more than 750 words. The academic history will require you to submit  information for all secondary and post-secondary schools attended. In particular information pertaining to dates of attendance, location and degrees awarded.

 

Step 5

School Transcripts: The Fashion Institute of Technology requires you to submit all  official secondary and post-secondary transcripts to the following address,

The institute will only accept transcripts that are official meaning they must  have the stamp and signature of the Registrar or designated officer and must be placed in a sealed envelope with the stamp and signature of the Registrar or designated officer. 

Portfolio: A portfolio must be submitted for certain degrees at the Fashion Institute of Technology. These are for Art and Design programs. Your email from FIT will detail what must be included in your portfolio.Do not submit your portfolio until you have received an authorization form and detailed instructions from the admissions office.

Tips

Your application will be processed after the FIT admissions office has received your Academic History and Essay form.
